ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the correlation of eight chemical components in Miao medicine <italic>Periploca forrestii</italic> from different producing areas with the ecological and soil factors. Method:The contents of neochlorogenic acid, chlorogenic acid, cryptochlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid B, isochlorogenic acid A, isochlorogenic acid C, procyanidin A<sub>2</sub>, and periplocin were simultaneously determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). The root soil samples from various producing areas were collected for testing various soil factors, followed by climate data extraction with ArcGIS and topographic data recording using GPS. SPSS 24.0 was employed to conduct the bivariate analysis and stepwise regression analysis of the eight chemical components in <italic>P. forrestii</italic> from different producing areas with the ecological and soil factors. Result:Stepwise regression equations of the content of eight chemical components against ecological and soil factors were established. The findings demonstrated that neochlorogenic acid was negatively correlated with precipitation in the coldest season and chlorogenic acid negatively correlated with precipitation in the driest month. Cryptochlorogenic acid was negatively correlated with precipitation in the coldest season and average temperature in the warmest season, but positively with selenium. Isochlorogenic acid B was mainly affected by soil factors. Specifically, it was positively correlated with available iron and molybdenum but negatively with total phosphorus and available phosphorus. Isochlorogenic acid A was positively correlated with molybdenum but negatively with the coefficient of variation of precipitation. Isochlorogenic acid C showed a positive correlation with exchangeable magnesium. Procyanidin A<sub>2</sub> exhibited a positive correlation with molybdenum and a negative correlation with available potassium. Periplocin was negatively correlated with the coefficient of variation of precipitation. Conclusion:The correlation between the eight chemical components of <italic>P. forrestii</italic> and the ecological and soil factors has been clarified, which will provide reference for the introduction, cultivation, and standardized planting of <italic>P. forrestii </italic>and also a theoretical basis for further research on its ecological and soil factors and quality formation mechanism.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the potential suitable distribution area and the high-quality distribution area of <italic>Sabia parviflora</italic>. Method:Combined with the distribution information and environmental factors,the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) model and ArcGIS software were used to predict the potential suitable distribution area of <italic>S. parviflora</italic>. Based on the correlation between environmental factors and total saponins,total flavonoids,quercetin-3-<italic>O</italic>-gentiobioside,camellianoside,tsubakioside A,kaempferol-3-<italic>O</italic>-rutinoside and isobariclisin-3-<italic>O</italic>-rutinoside,the quality regionalization was conducted by using spatial interpolation method and fuzzy superposition function in ArcGIS software. Result:<italic>S. parviflora</italic> is mainly distributed in Yunnan,Guizhou,Guangxi province in China. The medium and high suitable areas accounts for about 2.88% of the national area. The precipitation in October and November,the precipitation in the warmest and driest seasons,the standard deviation of seasonal changes in temperature and altitude are the main environmental factors that affect the distribution of <italic>S. parviflora</italic>. Slope,precipitation,solar radiation and temperature change had great influence on the accumulation of secondary metabolites. Based on the results of potential suitable distribution and spatial interpolation of each component,the high-quality areas of <italic>S. parviflora</italic> are mainly concentrated in the southwest of Guizhou,with Qinglong,Guanling,Zhenning,Pu'an,Xingren county and other areas as the core. Conclusion:This study provides a scientific guidance for the site selection of artificial planting and the procurement of medicinal materials for <italic>S. parviflora</italic>.

ABSTRACT

This study is based on the data analysis of medicinal plant resources and diversity collected from the fourth Chinese traditional medicine resource survey( pilot). Through the analysis of relevant data from 33 census pioneer plots in Guizhou province( area),a total of 265 families,1 432 genera and 5 296 species of medicinal resources were reported,including algae,fungi,lichens,mosses,a total of 43 genera and 35 families,57,48 families,120 genera and 453 species of ferns,gymnosperms 11 families,22 genera and 61 species,167 families,1 243 genera and 4 721 species of angiosperms,4 genera and 4 families four medicinal animals.Compared with the data related to the third survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources,the number of ferns,gymnosperms and angiosperms in the fourth survey has increased far more than that of the third survey. From the regional distribution of medicinal resources,the composition of the genus,the type of life,and the location of the medicine,the richness of the medicinal plant resources in Guizhou province is not only reflected in many types,but also in the variety of medicinal resources. These studies provide a scientific basis for vigorously developing the Chinese herbal medicine industry and the sustainably using medicinal plant resources in Guizhou province.

ABSTRACT

The research literature of Laportea bulbifera was summarized and analyzed, and its distribution of literature, chemical composition, pharmacological activity, quality control, clinical application and patent approval were summarized, this study can provide reference for the follow-up clinical application and development and utilization of the herb. Taking CNKI and PubMed database as the retrieval platform, keywords and full text as the search items, the Honghema, Honghuoma, Zhuya Aima, Laportea bulbifera (Siebold & Zuccarini) Weddell. and Laportea bulbifera as the search terms, the domestic and foreign paper reports and patent approvals of L. bulbifera from 1989 to 2018 were retrieved. A total of 41 papers and 63 patents were reviewed, the contents of these papers were pharmacological activity, chemical composition and quality control research, the majority of patents were compound. At present, 73 chemical constituents have been isolated and identified from L. bulbifera, and most of them were flavonoids. Flavonoids, catechins and coumarins were selected as the quality control indexes, and most of the pharmacological activities were anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-rheumatism. L. bulbifera is highly competitive in the market because of its remarkable pharmacological activities, however, its quality control level in local standard is low and testing items are incomplete. The determination reported in the literature lacks specific indexes to evaluate the quality of L. bulbifera, at the same time, it is necessary to further study its anti-inflammatory mechanism, explore its quality markers and establish the spectrum-effect relationship, so as to effectively control the quality of L. bulbifera and provide documentation for its comprehensive utilization and resource development.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To elucidate the possible role of human lysozyme-like protein 4 (LYZL4) in fertilization and characterize its enzymatic properties.@*METHODS@#The localization of LYZL4 in human spermatozoa was investigated by immunofluorescence staining, the sources of LYZL4 on the sperm surface examined by RT-PCR, and the role of LYZL4 in fertilization assessed by the zona-free hamster egg penetration test. The recombinant plasmid pPIC9K-LYZL4 was constructed and its expression induced with methanol after transformed into competent Pichia pastoris GS115. The recombinant LYZL4 protein (rLYZL4) was purified from the fermentation supernatant and subsequently identified by Western blot. The hyaluronan binding ability of rLYZL4 was determined by ELISA and the muramidase activity, hyaluronidase activity, and free radical scavenging ability examined by spectrophotometric methods.@*RESULTS@#Immunodetection with a specific antiserum localized LYZL4 on the acrosomal membrane of mature spermatozoa, which was exclusively secreted from the testis and epididymis as shown by RT-PCR. Immunoneutralization of LYZL4 significantly decreased the number of human spermatozoa bound to zona-free hamster eggs in a dose-dependent manner in vitro. The recombinant protein was expressed successfully by the P. pastoris strain GS115. Purified rLYZL4 exhibited a potent hyaluronan binding ability and a strong free radical scavenging ability but no muramidase or hyaluronidase activity.@*CONCLUSIONS@#LYZL4 secreted from the testis and epididymis is localized on the acrosomal membrane of mature spermatozoa and plays a role in sperm-egg binding as well as in binding hyaluronan and scavenging free radicals, which suggests that it might be a multi-functional molecule contributive to sperm protection and sperm-egg binding.

ABSTRACT

To determine the optimal pool size and pooled sample size for testing whether an infection rate has exceeded the critical level of malaria epidemics using the pool sampling method and fixed sample size approach. Methods The function between the pooled sample size and pool size was deduced by using arcsin transformation and normal distribution approximation while controlling the probability of type I and type II errors. Computer simulation was used to evaluate the approximate power function. Results The optimum pool size and the pooled sample size were obtained for different critical and normal levels of infection rates. Conclusion The optimal pool size and the pooled sample size are in an inverse relationship for given probability of type I and type H errors, so in practice we should make an evaluation according to the sampling cost and test cost.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the influencing factors of investment management of hospital intangible assets, so as to provide countermeasures for establishing and optimizing the investment management system of hospital intangible assets. Methods: Taking hospital reputation as an example, we analyzed its role in the investment management of hospital intangible assets and the maintenance of hospital reputation in an economic perspective using Shapiro model and game theory. Results: The factors, such as the blueprint of hospital, efficiency of medical quality information transmission, and cost variance, all influenced the reputation of hospital. Conclusion: In the health care field, stable property right system should be established and market information agents should be cultivated. The administrative actions of involved departments should abide by the related regulation and the running system of hospitals should be optimized.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To provide a minimum sample size approach and a sequential sampling approach for testing whether the sporozoite rate has exceeded the critical level of malaria epidemics using the pool sampling method. Methods: Formulas of the expected pooled sample size and the power of tests were deduced while controlling the probability of type I and type II errors. The optimal pool sizes of the 2 approaches were given by minimizing the expected pooled sample size; computer simulation was used to verify the outcomes. Results: The optimal pool size, programming of MATLAB, and the steps of trials of the 2 approaches were given. The minimum sample size approach could be used for routine surveillance and sequential sampling approach could be used for early warning. Conclusion: The optimal pool size in the present study can obtain satisfactory testing power (type I and type II errors are both lower than 5%) and can effectively decrease the pooled sample size.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To build an epidemic model of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) to be used to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of intervention measures.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Following the nature of SARS epidemics, an epidemic model of SARS based on SEIR model of infectious disease was built, in which case management group was set up and some parameters related to control measures were included. As an example, data gathered from Beijing was fitted to illustrate its application to quantitatively evaluate the intervention measures.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>In the newly developed model of epidemics, parameters related to control measures could easily be modified. When scenario assumption was used, a model on SARS outbreak under various circumstances of intervention measures could be set. Thus, quantitative evaluation of intervention measures could perfectly be caried out. Pilot study revealed that the fitness existed in modeling the outbreak of SARS in Beijing and the intervention measures implemented around April 20, 2003, had major contribution to the control of SARS.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The model of SARS epidemics seemed to be stable and reliable to be used to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention measures implemented during the SARS outbreak in a quantitative way.</p>

Objective: To study the influence of electret on surface charge of fibroblast cells (3T3 cells) and to probe the relationship between cell growth, apoptosis and cell surface charge. Methods: Electrets Teflon PTFE, ±300 V,±1 000 V were used to treat 3T3 cells for 24, 48 and 72 h. Then the influences of electrets on cell cycle and surface charge of 3T3 cells were studied by flow cytometry and electrophoresis, respectively. Results: (1) After 24 h action of negative electrets, electrophoretic mobility (or surface charge) and cell number in S phase of 3T3 cells were significantly increased compared with those in control group. (2) Effect of negative electrets enhancing cell growth and increasing cell surface charge was in proportional to the surface potential of electret. (3) Surface charge density of apoptotic cell was reduced by electret. (4) After 24 h action of positive electret, the cell number in S and G2 phase were decreased and cell surface charge was also reduced. Conclusion: Negative electret can improve cell growth and increase cell surface charge density. Positive electret can restrain cell growth and reduce cell surface charge density. Surface charge of apoptotic cell is less than that of normal cell.
